Global Rhythms aims to be the cauldron of culture that reflects the best of world music, dance, theatre, costumes, languages, Bollywood, and the concerts are as varied as the people that inhabit the stage on concert night.  According to founder and artistic director Srinivas Krishnan, the project that weaves in a cast of around 400 on September 23 and 24, 2011, is a project that turns courage into knowledge and knowledge into wisdom and understanding.  Both nights are different productions with diverse offerings.  
 
On the opening night of September 23rd Friday, the stage opens for a team of 300 artists joined by a range of guests - 18 year old sensation Ali Amr from the West Bank (Palestine) and 21-year old Tarik Rentissi from Ramallah (Palestine), five-time Grammy winning Glen Velez on frame drums, three-time Grammy winning Robin Eubanks on trombone, Grammy winning Eguie Castrillo on Latin percussion, Victor Mendoza on vibes, Ray Vega on trumpet, Broadway artist Jeff Queen on snare drums, Lori Cotler on vocals, Maestro Asnawa from Bali, to name a few.  The refreshing addition of one of the greatest trombone virtuoso's Robin Eubanks has allowed Srini to weave in a Big Jazz Band (conducted by Jeremy Long) premiering pieces from around the world as well as an 80-member all-female choir (The Choraliers conducted by Bill Bausano) that will premiere a single of Academy Award winning composer AR Rahman (of Slumdog Millionaire fame).  A four-member Flamenco team led by Humberto Sales make their debut appearance and also featured the same evening are a Klezmer Ensemble, as well as a unique quintet that weaves in strings, piano, and woodwinds presenting music from Bollywood.  An indoor drumline directed by Alex McIntosh and an A Capella team (Mergers conducted by Arjun Chandy) conclude the first night of events.  Several SFA faculty including Pansy Chang, Andrea Ridilla, Michele Gingras, Lian Tan, James Lentini, Chris Tanner, Bill Albin, Jaime Morales Matos take the stage.
 
The ability of Global Rhythms to straddle worlds, the tradition and the modern, and transcend forms has won her diverse fans.  This time, a big emphasis is being laid on costumes.  Apparel are being specially created for specific members of the team by designers overseas in India as well as support from creative designers including Silvie Rothschild and Valeria Naymar have added a whole new layer to the production besides assistance from members of Fashion for Charity at Miami University. 
 
Saturday night September 24th opens the door to a whole new stage where the guest artists including Robin Eubanks, Jeff Queen, Ali Amr, Tarik Rentissi, Eguie Castrillo, Victor Mendoza, Maestro Asnawa, Ray Vega, and others combine with a 100-member mixed choir (Collegiate Chorale conducted by Jeremy Jones) and the Miami University Symphony Orchestra (conducted by Ricardo Averbach) to premiere unique works from Lord of the Rings (musical), and music of Academy award and Grammy winning AR Rahman.  Other special guests of the evening include Maya and Malavi (two young middle school child prodigies), Kelsey Harmon who is a rising star on vocals, Flamenco virtuoso Humberto Sales, and a composition that lends itself to world peace, composed and arranged by Arjun Chandy for A Capella team Mergers and Moxie, a vocal group that recently has returned from an international tour of India.  
 
This mosaic of music, color, culture, dance, art, fashion is not complete without a touch of food.  On Saturday September 24th night, thanks to support from Alumni Association, there will be a tent installed across Hall auditorium with the purpose of allowing a taste of Indian cuisine.  This is not dinner by any means and only food samples from Northern India will be served to those members of the audience who have purchased tickets in advance for the September 24th evening show.  A portion of the ticket will be retained at the food counter at the time of food tasting in the tent.  Food samples will be served only between 6 PM and 7.30 PM. 
 
The shows are directed by Miami Alum Srinivas Krishnan, Founder and Artistic Director of Global Rhythms and management support comes in from Mary Jane Berman, Dorothy Falke, Gene Willeke, and Jacque Rioja Velarde.  This year, the production managers are Christine Hartz, Santhosh Jayasankar, and Sean O Neill.  The shows are sponsored by Center for American & World Cultures, International Visiting Scholar Exchange Fund – Office of International Programs, Parents Fund, School of Fine Arts, Krish and Vicky Joshi Foundation, Gary and Parul Houlahan, Bhairavi Jani, Alumni Association, and the Department of Music.  Global Rhythms has showcased performances all around the world and believes in the power of collaboration, communion and sharing which form the basis of trust and relationships.  Global Rhythms believes in a one world and that the world of love is ultimately the one we are born to live in.
